I recently painted our dining room (see post here) and my old curtains didn't work with the new wall paint color. I didn't want to spend much money on new curtains, so I decided to try making curtains out of bed sheets. Then I saw @the_fetching_farmhouse on Instagram talking about how she used flat bed sheets from Walmart to create curtains for her home too. So I ordered flat sheets from Walmart like she did, and they worked perfectly!
There is an extra wide window and a regular sized window in our dining room, so these are the sizes I ordered:
- 2 white flat sheets (Mainstays brand) in twin size (for the smaller window) at $6.06 each
- 2 white flat sheets (Mainstays brand) in double size (for the larger window) at $9.47 each
The twin and double size sheets are the same length at 96" long, which was perfect for my windows. The double size is a bit wider than the twin. Here are the dimensions that the sheets come in:
- Twin dimensions: 66” x 96”
- Full dimensions: 81” x 96”
- Queen dimensions: 90” x 102”
- King dimensions: 108” x 102”
If you have higher ceilings, the queen and king size sheets are longer and will work better for you. I like my curtains to hang just at the floor or to pool slightly, like they do here. I also like to use curtain rod rings with clips, because they slide nicely making it easy to open and close the curtains.
The curtain rods are available on Amazon here, and the rings are from here.
The curtains are beautiful and look nothing like bed sheets when they are hung! They are a nice thickness and a really great quality. I've loved them so far! I spent less than $35 for all the curtains, which is a great deal.
