Last weekend I was at a yard sale and a woman asked me how far a long I was. When I told her I was due in November, this is what she said.

“Wow! You are BIG! You look like you’re due a lot sooner than that!”

Oh, no she DI’ INT.

Can I give some friendly advice on what NOT to say to a pregnant lady that you might see?

*DON’T say they look big. Or huge. Or anything remotely close to that. As if we don’t already know that our bellies are exploding. No need to point it out. I get this a lot because I carry my babies straight out the front and look like a torpedo is shooting from my mid-section. It is almost alien-like. But please, I am aware of this and don’t need to be reminded!!

*DON’T say “you have a while to go yet!”. Yes, we know when we are due. And yes, it feels like we are pregnant forever. Don’t rub it in.

*DON’T say things like “you look miserable”, “I pity you”, “I’m glad I’m not you”. For heaven’s sake, be positive. Even if you don’t mean it.

*DON’T tell your labor horror stories. Or stories about other people’s horrendous experiences. Seriously, we just don’t want to hear about it right now.

*DON’T tell them that they should be glad the baby isn’t here yet because, when it does, they will have their hands full and never get sleep again. Again, be positive. We will love you for it.

If all else fails and you can think of nothing else to say, just say “Can I buy you a day at the spa while I watch your kids?”. This will make us veeeery, veeeery happy.:)
