Happy 4th of July!

I’ve been wanting to make a circle skirt for a while and finally made it with patriotic colors – red, white, and blue.

I followed the tutorial on the Made blog. I was a little apprehensive about making it since it involved math (I stink), but it actually was pretty easy to make.

I made the pattern for a quarter of the skirt with newspaper (the tutorial goes into detail about how to do this).

I folded the fabric (I got 1-3/4 yards) and used the newspaper pattern to cut the fabric.

When I unfolded the fabric, here is the basic shape of the skirt. I bought the polka dot fabric and 3″ wide red striped elastic (so cool!) at a local fabric outlet (Goodville Fabric Outlet) for about $5.

Basically, you just sew the elastic onto the waist of the skirt, then hem the bottom and you’re done. If you’re a beginner at sewing, you must try this!

It’s so easy & fun!

And Avery’s favorite part – it twirls!!

I will be linking to the Pleated Poppy’s “What I Wore Wednesday” linky party.
