So, I’ve been going a little crazy with the Goodwill furniture makeovers lately. Seems like I go through spurts where I don’t find/need new furniture, then I hit the jackpot and just can’t resist picking up cheap (or free) pieces that need a little love.

The closet in our bedroom is tiny (and I mean tiiiiny), so I’ve been keeping my eye out for an armoire. My mom spotted this at Goodwill and I snatched it up for less than $20. It needed a new paint job, but was very sturdy and solid.

Here it is BEFORE…

And after some scrubbing, removing the mirror, and several coats of paint, here it is in our bedroom…

After I painted it with primer and semi-gloss, I sanded the edges, then used my simple homemade glazing technique. Basically, I just watered down some dark brown paint, used a sponge brush and brushed it onto the wood, then used a damp cloth and wiped the paint off, leaving some of the brown paint showing on the edges and in the cracks.

I also added this wood scroll embellishment that I got at Hobby Lobby to the top. It needed a little something extra to fancy it up a bit.

It’s the perfect solution for our little closet. Now I need to head back to Goodwill and find more dresses to fill up the armoire.

Just don’t tell husband.
