I talked about my “plank wall” on Friday’s post, and I’ll share how I did it here. It really is so simple, but in real life, it looks like wood planks! If you want the look of shiplap but don’t have the time or money to spend on it, this is an awesome trick! I chose to do just one wall behind the bed to create a focal wall.
Steps to get the shiplap (wood plank) look:
- Use a ruler and draw lines approx. 8″ apart with a pencil. This is the trickiest part of the process. Because my ceiling was sloped, I was constantly measuring up from the floor to make sure my lines weren’t getting crooked.
- Use a black Sharpie paint pen in fine thickness and draw over the pencil lines. Use a ruler if you have a hard time getting straight lines, but it doesn’t have to be perfect.
- Paint over the lines (once they have dried a few minutes) with a super light coat of the wall paint so that the lines aren’t so bold and black. I went over some lines more heavily with paint again, so that the lines look a little bit uneven and not perfect, like wood boards would look.
- Enjoy your new look! It’s as simple as that!
Let me know if you have any questions about the process in the comments, and I’ll be happy to help!
